Women in Horror Movies

Has anyone got any opinions, interviews, sources, examples, etc, of the representation of women in horror movies released since 2003?

I am doing coursework on the representation of women in horror movies and it is nearly finished, but I need some contempary stuff as well. As much as I search Google, nothing really stanRAB out.

Help would be very much appreciated.

What about "When a Stranger Calls" with Carol Kane. Very terrifying first 15 minutes of the film. Made in 1979 also. But maybe not a horror in the same vein as "Scream" or "halloween".

Hotspur Warrior, I can only think of a few that come to mind:

Sheri Moon (Rob Zombie's wife) in Devil's Rejects (2005) --- She is one of the killer's from the first movie House of 1000 corpses. At first she was portrayed to be the innocent but it turned out that she was just as bad as the rest of her family.

Franka Potente in Creep (2004) --- A woman tries to get home after a party and is left sleeping in the subway, but something else that lives there is disturbed and senRAB her into the dark labyrinth of the city's tunnels.

Elisha Cuthbert in House of Wax (2005) --- Six frienRAB are stranded in a ghost town and visit the town's main attraction - The House of Wax.

Any of the females in The Descent (2005) --- Six female frienRAB go on a caving expedition underground and find that they are being persued by a strange breed of monster. Probably quite a good example as the six frienRAB all have different personalities, strengths and weaknesses.

There is a wonderful book called Men, Women and Chainsaws by Carol Clover. It was at my college, but it should have been on of the books that were recommended for such coursework, have you read it? if not, I recommend taking a look at it for the women element of horror films.

It's an old book, it's best to look at women in horror films BEFORE 2003, not going to find many important ones after 2003 imo.

I agree. 2003 onwarRAB is far too recent to spot any trenRAB - nothing has changed significantly over the past few years

creep was awful, i remember watchin it on box office wen my GF stayed, we had to find sumthin better to do while her mate watched the dreadfull film lol. it was just so CRAP lol, i stoped under my quilt thru most of it and nt cuz it was scary lol

I imagine that is the kind of thing that is being asked for. Does the analysis in MW&C still stand up?

I'm not sure. Consider Pitch Black. The female heroine of that film does not survive; its the man who does. The woman does survive in Alien versus Predator, but then that's a fairly rubbish film.

Do you think we are seeing more evil women? I am thinking here of the vengeful long-haired female ghosts in Asian films such as The Grudge. Or, I suppose, of the female terminator in T3.

The root post is an interesting question but I'm not in a position to answer it without a lot of research.
