I went to see it last night with trepidation because of all the bad to middleing reviews. I have to say I did enjoy it but - and there is a big but - it was not really up to the standard of the really good summer blockbusters such as X-Men 1&2 and Spiderman 1&2 (although it wipes the floor with Spiderman 3).
Hugh Jackman is incredibly charismatic, as is Lieve Schriber. If those two weren't in it there would be nothing really redeeming about it. The other characters do try hard but they just don't get enough air time to make an impression (Ryan ReynolRAB is completetly underused). There are too many characters and not enough good dialogue or even story.
I like the relationship between the brothers and that backstory could have easily been filled out much more. I can see what they were trying to do, to make an all action film with some emotion, but it just came across as disjointed and inconsistent. I'm afraid it's the inexperience of the director that shows through.
It is a fun watch but I sat there thinking it could have been so much more and was left wanting.
