Just been to see this film..

I blame myself really, I was so full of hope after seeing the trailer.. and..

:(

but i'm sure other people will like it

At the end all I thought was .... huh? is that it? i've been short changed here!!!





(the exact same feeling I got from Open Water..) :( :o
 
You're not alone.

I know people are raving about this, but I saw it earlier this week and failed to see what all the fuss was about. It was okay, but nothing special.
 
I thought the film was ok - couple of scenes like the fingers was horrible :( but thats what you get when you watch a 18 lol.. I thought the end was very sudden and wanted more - and the start of it when it was all nicey nicey before they go to sleep in that guys creek was too long... other than that it was alright...
 
Actually even though i seriously disliked this film this bit was exceedingly gruesome!

HUGE SPOILER!!!

The killer grabs hold of one of the girls and says something along the lines of "I'm gonna make you a head on a stick", you see him insert his knife into her back and move it sideways thus slicing throught her spine, he drops her on the floor (she's still alive) and rather sickly says "now you're just a head on a stick!"... SICK!
 
I saw wth a relvite waner i was starinr withe up north i thouth the movie was vrey good and Socking and screy and upsetin all at the same time the guy was like a oz Freddie Crger but the movire was like a oz Texiz Chinesaw masscer you commint above i thout the same thing i woud dffile give 10/10 i hop it wins An oscer
 
Saw this this afternoon, I'm still shaking.
Very effective, well acted, well directed but very nasty horror film. In terms of horribleness of its content it's probably on a par with Last house on the Left.

My advice to anyone who has stumbled upon this thread who hasnt seen it is: If you like horror films and you think you can handle anything, go for it. If you've ever seen anything on film that has upset you, then best give it a miss.
 
I thought WOLF CREEK was best horror I have seen in years along with SWITCHBLADE ROMANCE, both heavily influenced by THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
 
All a bit rubbish I think... Trailer made it look like a damn good movie - but in the end it turned into the usual slasher flick.

Couple of really stupid bits i'll keep spoiler free...
Why crash the car in the mine when it was a perfectly good working car they could have escaped in?!?!
and
How the hell did he know she was going to pick that car to try and start in the garage (and get in the back seat)

The bit with the
Nails & the Dogs
was pretty good I have to say though (had to watch that through my fingers!!!)

5 out of 10 - down to the fact it was more 'Blair Witch' than 'Friday 13th'

Maybe the car in pursuit was better, faster and he knew the area.

In a garage full of car, you might head for the one lined up with the open door - some seemed to be queued further back - and inaccessible.

Some thoughts...

I really wish she'd finished him off after she shot him, clearly a fleshwound as he didn't keel over stone dead. She should have given up on the gun and got one of his knives..RAB don't be shy, he has a preserved female torso on his wall!!!....Hellllo!!! :eek: But then I know we'd have no film..Tra la la. It is what I would have done.

When it comes to the investigation, Ben is found on a specific road.
A burned-out car ( with 2 or more sleletons) should, you'd think, be found on another road miles away.
both sites are within 1 -1.5 days walking distance max of the murderfarm.
This is crucial, as there is a maximum a healthy or injured person can wander. This surely could have narrowed down the search areas and created 2 overlapping radii to concentrate on.

When he described the man, admittedly if he could fully remember him - surely a guy who used to cull herRAB, shoot vermin, drives a series of cars and moves within those search areas might have been remembered by someone, perhaps the decent garage attendant who served the three backpackers remembers a man like him there on the day, as he was, on in the camcorder? maybe 20 or thirty guys might fit this description or more..but his face, would stand out to Ben, even if he thought his memory was hazy.

I ask all this because, despite the size of the outback, the police found a suspect for the Peter Falconio murder, on a decription as slim as Ben's could have been, slimmer even.

Anyhow...I enjoyed it.
I liked the double bluff twist, as when you see Liz stare into the sea, you think that'll be the determined look of a 'survivor'..and she so nearly did.
 
okay...
so this based on 'facts' taken from several different incidents.... so the survivor - ben mitchell... which 'incident' is he from? It says he was held for 4 months after he wasfound, and i can find no referance to this on the internet at all.
anyone got any ideas?
 
I thought this film was very good. The start was very slow and it does resemble a 'Blair Witch' or 'Open Water' style movie, but once it gets going, it's very well done.
I had no expectations and had only seen one trailer for the movie - so I guess that helped. I've found several times now that a film is alot more enjoyable when you don't have much prior knowledge.

Can anyone tell me if this is really based on a true story?

There are always parts in a horror film which seem stupid and you think 'why the hell are they doing that?' But i still found the whole thing sickening

Couple of parts (already mentioned are)

Why didn't she make sure he was dead? Considering you know he's going to kill you all and has killed already, why on earth leave the scene without knowing he's dead?

When she went back to get another car, Why the hell did she take so long looking at all the other tourists luggage? GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE STRAIGHT AWAY

That Spine part was nasty. Really made me feel sick. I kept hoping that someone was going to turn up and get him before he got her. I never expected both girls to die and the fear they showed on screen made me shake

Anyway, i enjoy horror films, nothings ever freaked me out before and I usually laugh at them, but Wolf Creek actually worked for me and I actually don't want to watch it again!!
 
Just like you I love horror films... and this one just about made me go errrgghhh (nails) but apart from that I just felt it followed the usual slasher flick recipe... shame as the word about the film was all good.

Oh, and I always put the 'why did they do that' in horror films down to the fact that none of them are thinking straight because of all the pressure and anguish they are under... might just be an easy answer though! ;)

Little of topic this bit - but been told GREAT things about a new film called HOSTEL coming out soon - directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever)... and word is, it's a tad brilliant! No idea of the story or read any reviews yet though.
 
I was supposed to see Wolf Creek at Frightfest but sadly could not go in the end. Am hoping to see it later this week. Will be very disappointed if it is anything like Open Water. Actually, having read so much about it (I have avoided the spoilers though) I think I will be disappointed anyway.

Info on Hostel here. Personally, I hated Cabin Fever - thought it was very over rated. Not scary or eeky at all. Maybe this will be better.

I don;t think his situation was real, and the blurb at the end of the film was made up. Artistic license stating that they could make it all up and still say based on true events. Look at Fargo. The Cohen brothers said it was based on a true stroy, but it was all a big fat lie.

The strength of this film is when you place yourself in the victims rather bloodied shoes. If they provide some final back story to the film and make it seem more real then you buy into the reality of the horror of Mick's actions. Conciously by adding the further twist that Ben is accused makes his ordeal worse, and our understanding of the graphic and horrific loss even more real.

IMO... ;)
