Wolf Creek

It wasn't as gory or terrifying as I was expecting (thankfully). I thought John Jarratt was very good though, and the most unsettling scenes were the constant scenes of silent solitude where nothing was actually happening; journey > destination, if you will.
 
It's not a true story, just inspired.

Rather good film. At least compared to 'Hostel' you could like the characters in Wolf Creek, that's what made it disturbing for me because felt sad for the characters, unlike the absolutely moronic characters in Hostel, didn't care if they were killed off in Hostel frankly.
 
Yes John Jarratt is great, easily the star of the show. Obviously as the viewer we know something is up but I still think he's one of the most unsettling horror villians we have had over recent years.
 
I absolutely agree. I didn't care one jot what happened to the characters in Hostel. At least the characters in WC were regular, decent people.

I think this is one of the best horror films I've seen in recent years.
 
It's the part where the young Aussie says something around the campfire and he just seems to hold him with a stare, that's the part where you know it's going sour for them.
 
When the truck pulled up I was expecting it to be one of the jerks from the cafe that they stopped at, so was relieved when it wasn't (how wrong was I?) I didn't guess he was sinister as he seemed to give them a choice and didn't force them to go with him. Still that's probably why he was able to kill all his victims, naivety.
 
I saw it on channel 4 last night and thought it was excellent. It was very unsettling, and while it started out like your standard Hollywood film, it deviated from the usual template quite substantially and hence became unpredictable and all the more horrifying for that. There were moments where you had to suspend disbelief maybe, but there always are and I felt that it rated well against the standard slasher horror fare (where the last victim usually turns out to be someone with heroism of Captain Kirk and the skills of Batman).
 
hmm you could be right. I felt like the film left some things unexplained, for example why the watches and car stopped working. But then again, maybe they wanted to leave that for us to decide.
 
I really enjoyed Wolf Creek it was great.
I think Mick Taylor had stolen his accent from Chopper Read though :)
Is head on a stick made up or did it really happen in Vietnam?
 
I would have enjoyed it more if the 'victims' weren't the most stupid people ever in any horror movie. Very bad writing. And don't even get me started on the girl hitting the bad guy on the back with the rifle (yeah, on the back, not the head or anything that could actually hurt him) or her going back to his lair to look at his camera footage... ughhh!!!
 
I'm thinking of buying this on bluray as when I watched it on DVD I nearly cacked myself!!!:eek:
I love horrors like this, definitely one of my favourites along with Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) and the
Saw series.
 
I had to stop watching this one - it was really nasty. I thought it was very well done, but find horror films that throw rape in as well really difficult to deal with, it's a bit uneccessary.
 
As I recall, the watches was something to do with the magnetism of the crater, and wasn't significant except for atmosphere. The fault with the car could have been sabotage, couldn't it? They left it unattended for many hours. I'm pretty sure the bad guy didn't find them by chance; he either followed them from town or people in town told him where they were going.

UltraViolet has a good point about the characters being more likeable than in Hostel, but for me this is oRABet by the general stupidity.
