Wolf Creek

Saw this last night. It was made in Australia and I thought it was really good. One of the best horror movies I'd watched in a while. I found it a refreshing change to the crap that Hollywood throws out so often.

Anyone else seen it?

I haven't seen it in a while but that's how I remember it, when she goes back to Mick's place and comes across the belongings of other victims i'm sure there's a few photos seen of him helping others with their cars in the same place.

Seems like it was a pretty popular spot for people ot visit so you would get plenty of travelling types heading there, I gather Mick followed them from town and sabotaged their cars only to arrive later on with his offers of help.

i watched this up untill the point where that trucker guy offers them a lift. I had to turn it off after that as i was very tired. Is it worth watching again? as frankly i was bored to tears as almost nothing of interest was happening.

Yes!! That's where it starts to become interesting! The second half of the film is much better than the first, which just introduces you to the characters and the setting.

The film really made me feel uncomfortable watching it, and that's a first for me. It's a film that you can only watch once, but when you do it stays with you.

Yeah it was pretty intense.

I know...there were some really gruesome parts, like where the old man chopped one of the girls fingers off. So definitely not one for the squeamish.

this film is based on a true story isnt it? the bit that turned my stomach was when he stabbed her in the back and you hear her spine crack... this is one of the best horror films i have ever seen very intese and keeps you hooked it was sad that the last girl surviver didnt survive she almost made it... and the boy got away who i thought was dead

With the title 'Wolf Creek' I thought it was going to take place in a country that had wolves. 'Wallaby Creek', now that's a title.

It said it was based on true events, but I read later that it's inspired by true events. Apparently lots of people go missing in Australia every year and never get found so I think it could be true. Horrible to think that someone could do such cruel things.

I thought the girl was gonna get away too...and that was awful when the guy had to release himself from the spikes pinning him to the wall.

Um! SounRAB like you are just looking for faults which don't exist. We don't know how far they were from a highway, but certainly not next to one. If that was the case why didn't Ben find it? Nor do we know that it is busy. Being in the Outback I'd suggest the contrary.

Perhaps the killer didn't expect them to escape, based on past experience

I expected to like it - I quite like the Hostel and the Saw series, for example (although I regard them with a critical eye too).

The killers home was close to a road. As I said in my earlier post, two of the characters reach the road - I don't think it was even the same road. Both find traffic, so by outback standarRAB both roaRAB were busy.

On Channel 4 now. Very brutal and realistic Australian horror film just started on Ch 4. A timely reminder to backpackers who are well out of their comfort zone when travelling abroad. Well worth catching.

I watched this again last year and for me it lost a lot of it's shock value the second time around.

I thought that it was excellent the first time I watched it.....

I didn't think much of it. The first half is pretty slow, and doesn't have the same gradual sink into unease that, eg, Hostel has. The second half was spoiled for me because I thought the victim's actions were too stupid. For that matter, it seemed wrong that with all the remote places in Australia to choose from, the killer would bring his victims to a place next to a busy road. It's a while since I saw it, but as I recall one victim is able to flag down a passing car (which gives the killer the problem of dealing with someone who will be missed, which goes against his whole creed of picking on hikers) , and another actually escapes that way. In a more remote location that would have been impossible. It's all stupid, stupid, stupid.

The gore is just gore. So in summary, the basic idea is good and the "head on a stick" scene is stand-out, but the rest of it is nothing special at all.
