I went to sleep at 10pm, woke up 3 hours later. my chest totally sprained. i'm getting cramping pain and it feels like the ligaments get pulled . and like my chest is about to tear..so i couldn't sleep because I felt it bad when i was laying in bed. got better after i got up and sat up.

I've noticed for the past 2 weeks i've felt soreness in my sore everyday after i wake up in the morning. That wasn't that bad, but what i felt yesterday was pretty bad.

I also lost sleep cause i couldn't sleep so .....
If my chest is damaged forever, how am i going to sleep ever again? I tried sleeping in a sitting position and that was really hard. it felt weird. and it's dangerous.

i'm 31

How were you sleeping? Were you on your side or stomach or what? I do't think you have sprained anything, but if you were sleeping on your side and had sort of curled up on your side, you will have sore muscles when you wake up and stretch. Your muscles aren't used to be pulled in that direction and they will ache when you wake up. I don't think it is terribly serious, just try changing your sleeping position and see if that doesn't help. You could also take a tylenol to help with the ache if you feel it would help.

I sleep on my back. nothing unusual.
Well maybe this is not due to just how i slept. I actually have a old injury in my chest. It happend from doing a back bend backwarRAB as in gymnastics. It was stupid, i don't know why i did that but it happened. And ever since i've had aweful pain like i get stabbed right in the center of the chest.

So maybe my position during sleep was bad and that affected the old injury. But this had never happened before, the only times i get aweful pain is when i shadow box really fast, or do pushups( 2 things i have stopped since long time ago) or do some fast motion using my arms.

It sucks i got injured during sleep.

Well now it's 1 day after(5pm) after work. I couldn't lift boxes or move my chest fast. it felt like my chest was torn but now i'm starting to feel better.

What do you do with these kind of injuries? They're too rare and doctors usually don't have a clue or want to do tons of tests. Like i've said , i've lived with this for looong and i've been ok. But if it's getting worse, i might become disabled .

It certainly doesn't sound like you are anywhere near the disabled part. If you find that it continues-you need to keep a log of when, what you were doing-if sleeping how, how long it lasted. then you will have sometime to show to your doctors.

after the gymnastics incident, did you ever get even x-rays done to see if anything was injured? That may be a long suffering injury that just flares up occasionally. An MRI might at lest check out your spinal column and rib area to see if anything is damaged. But the first step is to keep a log. If the pain is accute, take tylenol or naproxen round the clock for a couple days to help releave the pain.

Well i said disabled cause well i can't do anything anymore. Can't do boxing, can't do punching.. basically can't do exercise with my upperbody. But i guess it's ok. i can do slow motion arm circles etc. i tried 10 pound weights but even that, even if i try to remain stable and no move, that hurts too.

No after that incident in 1998, i just hoped it would settle. and it did. but as time went by i just realized i couldn't do any fast motions with my upper body or else id get deep stabbing pain, like my chest muscles would tear.
Yeah it's gonna be a long suffering..

After like 2 days already of getting pain, i feel a bit better now but stil i get cramps for any little movement i make. but i'll be fine for now at least.
I dont think my damage is from the rib or spine. the pain is in the front of the chest and also in the right chest.

Yeah i'll be taking tylenol or something. thanks alot

never give up, right?

By the way, i've been able to sleep well for about 3 days because i'm using not 1 pillow but like 4...to raise my torso to about 25-30 degrees. And i can sleep well like that, i haven't had much pain when i lay like that.
