I've been put on a 3-week treatment of prednisone, starting off with 60 mg daily for four days and tapering off over the course of the treatment. I was going to start today, but I've woken up with a sore throat and some stuffiness and the info that came with the prescription said the medicine may hinder your ability to fight off sickness or infection. Should I wait until I've fought off my cold before I start the prednisone, or was that warning for more "serious" illnesses?

knowing what pred simply can do to a persons immune system, esp at that high of a dose(my son takes this for anti rejection of liver too) i would definitely contact your doc before even starting this particular med to simply be checked out for ANY possible viruses or infections which would include like possible strep too? when you are immunocompromised, even the smaller more innocuous types of isses can kind of 'explode' in your body since that normal ability to fight things off simply is either not really all there or seriously compromised depending.

you are very right in asking about this when starting or being on pred at anytime and feel 'sick"(even DURING the course too). but DO see your primary doc for a full eval before starting the pred. better safe than sorry with THIS med and ANY sign that you may be 'sick" at all ya know?

just what was that pred Rxed for? its just a pretty high dose, thats all. FB
