With the Government owning 62% of GM will they receive 62% of the profits?

That (62 percent) was the number of dems in support of the government intervening in GM.

The U.S. owns 60% of GM, the Canadian government owns another 12%. Remember East Germany's Trabant and other vehicles built by the government-owned companies in the old Soviet Union? Blah. They were crap.

Right now, the government has $44 billion of GM's $62.4 billion debt. Not a lot of profit. But don't see why the gov't wouldn't profit eventually with the lion's share unless they plan to return ownership to the private sector once it's rebuilt. That was the original plan. But I'm not sure if that's the direction they'll take it. Right now GM is the fed's indentured servant.

It's just a different world out there. The government seems to have at least partial ownership of nearly everything: housing (FHA/Freddie/Fannie), banking (chunks of BOA, Wells, Chase, etc.), auto (GM, Chrysler, etc.)... etc

There is not likely to be any profits from GM anytime soon. But In theory that should be the way it is but in real life no. I have no idea how the agreement on the loan was set up but I would assume that it was a no profit loan from the taxpayer to stimulate the economy.

What profits are you talking about?

GM has already murmured that they won't be able to pay back the loans...as has AIG.

Talk about a painful decision...and to think, Chapter 11 (a process they eventually went through recently) would have cost us nothing.

But then the Unions wouldn't have their minority stake in GM and majority stake in Chrysler. Grand world, ain't she?

Profits? What profits?

Shhhhhh....don't say profits. That's a dirty word these days.

According to the liberal establishment, you can't earn a profit by any other than nefarious means.
Profit = Criminal activity.
