cooking cycle? Or should you wait until it stops beeping? Is it safe to stand in front of them while they are operating?
 
There is a grid on the glass door designed to stop all microwaves getting out. I stand in front of mine all the time when I have nothing else to do and if the time set is short. As soon as you open the door no more micro waves come out even if it was still beeping.
