With everyone so concerned about "going green" ...?

... why do we tolerate high utility bills and nuclear power plants polluting out air when the technology for solar power has existed for years? With such influential men as Al Gore (don't go there), advocating green living, why haven't enough Americans protested the abuse of the power companies? No one should be paying for electricity.

I'm not generally a conspiracy theorist, but this one just baffles me.
What I find even more baffling is the insipid metaphors some of you have responded with. If ignorance is bliss, then there must be some very happy people out there.

My appreciation to those of you who give an honest and educated opinion.
 
because people are ignorant douche bags who are in denial and think that if anything horrific happens it will be after their lifetime
 
1st off, the US has very low utility rates compared to most western countries. Secondly nuclear power plants do not pollute the air. The waste materials they do produce are insignificant compared to the amount of power they produce. Right now nuclear power offers the best combination of energy output versus amount of waste material produced.

As for the whole going green thing, I think it's useless. Global Warming *may* be happening. I'll elaborate on that a little more. Back in the 1970's Global Cooling was all the rage, however a mere thirty years later suddenly Global Warming is the hot (no pun intended) topic. Clearly when dealing with something billions of years old (the earth) it's really unlikely that long term heating or cooling trends could be at all meaningful if they happen every 30 years or so.

Even if Global Warming is indeed happening, it is certainly not a man made phenomena. Every time there is a volcanic eruption somewhere on the planet, more greenhouse gasses are released in one eruption than all of man has been able to produce in the history of the species.

It's my opinion that Global Warming is a natural thing and there is nothing anyone can do to cause it or stop it.
 
People don't want to change because they are lazy. They don't care about the environment and how obviously, important it is. There really isn't a reason, or any excuse for the way things are right now.
 
There is such thing as "Wikipedia" and "Google" offering information about pros and cons about the subject.
 
Nuclear power plants don't pollute air.

Solar energy is very expensive and not very efficient and only works when there is sunlight able to reach the solar panels.

Al Gore has a carbon footprint that is about 100 times the size of mine. He is a complete hypocrite.

A power company has never "abused" me. They have provided me with a very necessary service which I gladly pay for.

No one forces you to pay for electricity. If you don't want it, don't pay for it. I prefer to have heat, electric lights, a computer, a TV, a stove, a microwave, a water heater, etc. in my home - and solar power just won't cut it.
 
if you were raised your entire life christian, wouldn't it be hard to change your life style to buddhism? yes it would.

same goes to America.

not very baffling now is it.
 
b/c there are a lot of rich powerful people who get their money from the oil industry
think about it, didn't the first electric car come out in like the 80s? Shouldn't we all be driving electric cars now? No b/c some rich guy didn't want to lose all that money.
 
solar panels are really expensive to build, and the location of it is also something that must be evaluated
 
Wow. You opened up a big can of worms, big guy. Isn't it amazing how defensive people are in their complacency?

I agree with you. I know people who know people in high government places. The technology does indeed exist. And for those sad people who think there would be no power at night, well, as you said, they must be very happy indeed.

I know you know the answer. It's an interesting question that I wish more people would give serious thought to.
