I drive a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L. The other day my wipers were working just fine, and now they are not. I checked the fuse and it was blown. Replaced that, started up the truck, and the fuse blew again. I tried it again with the same result.
I'm just wondering if this is most likely a burnt out motor or a grounded wire. An employee at a parts store told me that wiper motors usually don't suddenly quit, rather they slowly die. Personally, I'm thinking it's a grounded/exposed wire because the fuse blows before I even have a chance to turn the wipers on. But I just want a second opinion.
I live in Michigan and we got hit with a bad blizzard. The wipers weren't working the next day.
Also, if I could get an estimation of how much a repair would cost if it's a grounded wire. That would be great. The auto shop I go to charges $50 an hour.
I pretty much figured that if it's the motor it would cost $75 plus 1 or 2 hours of service.
