Windows Media player won't rip my new cds?

I recently bought five CDs at BestBuy, in hopes of putting the music on to my phone. The problem was when I tried to rip them on to my computer. It gets thirty percent of the way through one song and then it won't rip any more. I tried it on my mom's computer, which has XP and an earlier version of Windows Media player, and it came up with an error without even ripping, saying the problem might be a codec missing. How can I fix it?
 
update your version of Windows Media player.
If I'm not mistaken there's a new version out.
What you really should do is go under add/remove programs and remove it. Then go to the microsoft website and download the newest version.
