windows media player only playing sound not video?

i just downloaded some videos the old xmen cartoons =D and when i try to run them it says codec error and it only plays the music and sound and doesnt show the video i know the video works becuase in the comments people say it woks and also i use to watch them but after i reinstalled windows they stopped working can anyone please help
 
Google search "K-Lite Codec Pack" and download/install it. It's easy, free, safe, and will let you play just about any media type right through Windows Media Player.

If you aren't totally set on Win Media Player, you can download VLC for free. It's a media player with TONS of codecs built in.

Oh, if you download K-Lite, do NOT choose to install the Media Player Classic when it asks if you want to. It's not a virus or anything - it just totally sucks.
