Windows media player... missing codec?

All of a sudden out of the blue Windows Media Player no longer wants to play about half of my music files, it says there is a codec missing. The Microsoft site was of no help. I recently removed some spyware, and I am 100% clean. I am thinking that might have messed up my coden while it was on my PC?

Anyone know of a way to fix it? I already tried re-installing a fresh copy of it. Using Realplayer for the time being.
Tried that comtech, still does not work.

In the settings for Windows Medi Player the default setting for downloading codecs is check as weekly, change this to daily and it should download the codecs as you play or view music and videos. You have to close it after you make the change then reopen it. You should be ble to get the media codecs from the Microsoft web site.
