I have a DVD that a German friend sent me of episodes of a German-dubbed kids program (as I'm learning the language). It's obviously a home- made DVD (DVD-R), and it loads ok, but I can only get sound for the episodes, and not the picture. This is ok, I suppose, but I would quite like to see the picture, is there anything that I can do to make media player play the film, too?
There's a red error symbol next to the list of episodes on the disc at the side of hte screen.
My computer does play proper DVDs with no problems.

Any ideas appreciated :)

You need to download the Codecs for the DVD. A codec is a WMP plugin allowing you to play different multimedia formats. The most common ones are DivX. Try finding out what format the video was saved as and research the codec on Google

If it is a copied dvd it would have been done in the region for Germany.
You may not be able to view it or it was not finalized try making a copy if you have a dvd burner.
