Windows Live Messenger - Chat w/ 2+ friends at once?

I'm using Windows Live Messenger on Windows XP. Is it possible to have a text conversation with more than one user at a time? Basically does messenger support chatting with more than one user at a time. I would like to have 2 friends in on a conversation so all 3 of us are sharing info at once -- like irc chat.

How do i achieve this with the latest Windows Live Messenger?
