My favorite part is when they first see the candy paradise and Gene Wilder sings pure imagination. Of course, it's a little obvious that some of the candy there were just actually painted balloons and styrofoam, but it was just :sigh:

Every time I watch the opening, I feel as though I've gained at least 100 pounds. :goof:

mukooh - that's so cool. Thanks for sharing that. I'm not surprised, though - I find Gene Wilder to be a particularly insightful person when reading his interviews, etc.

You know, I found the movie to be more emotionally accessible, too, not surprisingly, I suppose...

I watched this movie last night at my friend's house when I spent the night there and this one has got such a YUMMY opening! This film NEVER gets old for me and I've seen it a million times.

That is, without a doubt, my least favorite scene. It scared the hell out of me as a kid, and it still gives me the heebeejeebees.

I don't know. He's just always bothered me. I guess it's just the way he acts, and his facial expressions.

I think my favorite scene is when everyone is on the boat and Willy Wonka seems like he's going mad and different images are flashing by. It's always creeped me out, but in a very fascinating, cool way.

Yeah, the remake is to be called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but I'm sure many people would get confused, since they have the same basic plot and all.

Anyway, I loved this movie. Gene used to scare me a little when he did the screaming thing at the end, because I thought he was mean to do it... but now I think it's a great scene. :D

I loved the Oompa Loompas; but I have to say I always loved when everyone enters the colorful room where all the scenery is candy - I always wanted to go there. :P

Why do you hate Charlie?

I can't stand the 'remake,' if you can even call it that.

I lovek the opening with all the chocolate, omg, that is just incredible! And yes, seeing the inside of the chocolate factory for the first time, it's so magical!

hi....thought i'd drop by the thread and post something meaningful about the original film......

i'm reading a book right now called "kiss me like a stranger - my search for love and art" by gene wilder (the original willy wonka)....in the book he mentions making 'willy wonka & the chocolate factory'.......this is one of the things that he says about that film.....

interesting..huh?

I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when I was a kid, it was good, but this is one, I love the movie better, I think.

There's just something so genius about the whole film.

I've never read the books. I think some of you have mentioned that you have read them. Are they worth checking out or will my perception of the movie be changed? I'm just curious.

Love for the old school! I really didn't like this new movie. I've even read the book and I love the book and even though this was closer with the story to the book it changed some crucials things...LIKE EVERYTHING WILLY WONKA IS. He isn't some whiny mean man who doesn't like children and needs therapy! That wasn't even the ending in the book. BLAH. I much prefer the first one because at least it got the atmosphere right.

"WRONG, sir - WRONG!"

So.freakin'.powerful.and.scary. *shivers* That really is a great scene, Silver Dawn.

And of course it's followed by my all time favorite line, "So shines a great deed in a weary world."
