OR will you leave it up to the school's to do this?
I'd like to know from a Muslim persective.
digital ;) Right on!
noub: nice answer :)

I already have.
The school system has an "abstinence only" program that the 8th graders do but we all know that doesn't work...
I've taught my son what he needs to know and he's 18 with no baby mommas...
Can you believe it?

i dunno what u exactly mean by "sex education"..
but if u r talking about sex details between a man & a woman , then that will never happen neither in home nor in school..

and if u r talking about how to protect themselves sexually & how to deal with their private organs & with the physiological changes happening in their bodies , then definitely YES , why not?
it will be unfair if they didn't receive such education..

islam is our life & our life is islam..
love & peace from islam..

i am a muslim and i belive that when teaching this kind of stuff to your children you need to do it yourself...because from the schools they will teach kids at the wrong age hence havin se at a young age blah blah..whereas if you the parent tell them when you believe that they are of age (mentally)...i believe this is the better way

I don't think we kids need to be taught anything thanks to sex friendly environment we live in nowadays. kids know better then their parents and can even teach alot to their parents.

@ Noub thanks bro for your gud Ans.

in all seriousness, there is nothing to teach, it is something which one will know naturally. with muslims you will have to teach your child about marriage staying away from luedness and adultery and therefore through this type of education they will know what not to do and therefore they will know their rights and responsibilities.

as for todays society it is silly to think that one needs to teach 'sex education' but today we have this lame subject because the system has it wrong, they do not encourage marriage but encourage adultery and sleeping around, i mean the latest news, is that, teenage girls can order the morning after pill via text message, if this is not encouraging sleeping around then i do not know what is.

If this society is encouraging this lued form of behaviour then why don't they show them the real side of things. like in islam it is taught that one gets married has rights over his wife and his wife has rights over him, both parties have responsibilities etc.

hell no my kids will not take that in school . . i already decided that im going to home school them starting at age 10 they can go to school to learn all the basics but after that, theyre done there its so corruptive wallahi i dont think i can sit and watch my kids go thru it.. anyways, sex ed starts gradually..at a young age. theyre curious about their body parts, and u HAVE to teach them that no one is ever allowed to touch them there unless its a dr and unless their mom or dad is there and says that its ok...etc.
i went to a good halaqa on that subject though about a month ago. basically saying that islamically sex is taboo to discuss, but its very important for our kids to understand that its ok to talk to their own parents about and for us to teach them right and wrong etc..discuss crushes and temptation and all that fun stuff. often times its more uncomfortable for the parent than the kid...its just getting past that initial eek i dont wanna do this
