I tend to do a bit of both. I try to give a teaser answer and to point out a source. I also take the opportunity to give either a lecture or a mild jibe to encourage initiative in using tools other than blatantly direct questions to this forum.
I am completely surprised that this generation, that has so excellent a resource as the Internet, cannot muster the curiosity or the ability to use it - but takes this approach to their research.
I wish we had this tool in my school days. Wow!
