Only if they give you something called a "spacer" that sits at the roof of your mouth and makes more room. But in general, no.

Retainers are the things that make you talk weird.
 
don't be scared at all. you probably won't talk weird at all.. maybe the first day just because you're getting used to it but most people don't, your teeth will just be a little sore at first.
 
I got my braces in the 10th grade and im now in the 11th. When you get your braces you should not talk funny but do not listen to anyone one tells you that braces do not hurt. The first day i got mine i was in so much pain i could not eat any solid foods for at least a week. Im not trying to scare you im just telling you my experience with them. After the first couple of weeks things will go back to normal with your teeth
