Will this show up in the police ledger of the local paper?

An illegal immigrant who is holding some possessions of mine (amounting to ~1100) refuses to return my items. The police have flat-out refused to help me and I was told to threaten her to get my stuff back as the only way.

She CALLED MY MOM (I'm 20) and I don't know if she can take me to court! She's threatened me with prosecution for a made up reason before, then relented saying that she wouldn't "prosecute" because of "[my] age."

She is illiterate, illegal and working as a maid getting paid under the table. I used to work with her, and there are circumstances where it would be extremely unfavorable to have this story break.

I would like to know if my telling her that I'd "[get] her with a court order," or "call the INS" would count as menacing or something, especially if the threats were valid!

When she called my mom, she exaggerated claims by saying that I had threatened her kids. I never said a word about them! She's manipulating me, and the police WILL NOT HELP. I've been to the police station at least three times, each of which they have sent me away with no hope of aid.

My point is, there is a crime report in the local paper. If she called the police saying that it was menacing, could they put my name in relation to that incident?
 
first of all forget the newspaper, it is a small thing. DO NOT menace her, don't speak to her unless you have a witness.

be ABSOLUTELY certain that you have told only the truth, without exaggeration, and write everything down in chronological order. put in any names and dates you remember.

if you have receipts for your possessions, add them. how did she get those items in the first place?

and if you remember the name(s) of the police who refused to help you, add them, as well.

then call your law society or paralegal society and see if you can get a free half hour consultation with a lawyer.

in this instance you want everything you do to be above board and as clear as possible.

the lawyer will advise you on your next step.

you are going to do it this way because you have been victimized, not she; you must ensure that it will be seen that way.
