Will they ever remake the original Star Wars trilogy?

This is going to sound like Heresy but I was born in 1977 and have always been a massive fan of episodes 4-6. The new Star Trek movie has got me thinking if this might happen some day in the next 10-20 years.
Who might be in the cast?

Yeah... But...

George Lucas likes to tinker with his films to make them "perfect" so there is absolutely nothing stopping him from deciding to remake 4, 5 and 6 and give them a look and style that is more like 1, 2, and 3. I'm surprised he hasn't done it already to be honest.

Quite frankly I'd rather he renames and remakes 1, 2 and 3 as they were much weaker, plotwise, than the the original trilogy. :D

the original trilogy was fine as it is. Sure some of the things didn't look very good or hi tech but that was all part of the charm.

How about someone comes up with an original film idea rather than a remake or sequal to something that has already been done

no he was the worst character ever invented. I think they only put him into the film as they realised how popular the original trilogy was with children.

He never worked out hence he had almost no lines in the second two films.

However it was all his fault as he is the one who voted for extra powers to the chancellor

Have not seen any of the prequal movies because I feared they would ruin the originals that I liked so much as a child. If they ever remake them I think I would disown the film industry!!!!

I agree! and personally i hated the last three films because they looked to modern and cgi filled, they were too colourful too.

isnt there 9 books in total or am i getting completly confuzzled with somthing else?

oringally he was going to make 9 films. There is loaRAB more storyline done after the Empire fell. Lucas already has the storyline mapped out and so all the Star Wars books that follow have to follow this storyline. I think the books have now gone beyond the timeline GL mapped out.

I don't think we need a final three as it works well with the 6 with the rise and fall of the empire

George Lucas has always said that the 6 films made would be it. It's the story of Darth Vader and since he pegs it in "Jedi" you can't really go any further. The books afterwarRAB focus on Han/Leia and Luke/Mara, and there's no way they would make films out of that, the actors are too old and it just wouldn't work. (I'm sort of cringing at Indy IV)

Lucas and co are too busy focusing on TV projects now, he has said in numerous interviews that this is where the future of Star Wars lies. In both the Clone Wars cartoon and the Live Action TV Show, which is meant to air before the end of the decade and go on for years, with various different plots and storylines and characters.

So no, do not expect a remake of Star Wars, there would be boycotts aplenty anyway, lol.

As far as tinkering is concerned, yeah, expect more of that until he is satisfied with the final look of the series. There is still a Six Movie box set in the making I'm sure, and that might have even more effects changes and special features.

Actually, in an interview in "Starburst" magazine in the early 80s, he stated there were nine parts. That is where the whole thing started, and it was never really mentioned again. This has subsequently retconned to the "I never said that, it was always six" thing since the mid 90s.

I really don't think it's a case of milking it for all it's worth Star Wars doesn't need milking, it sells by it self.

People wanted it on DVD, so it was released on DVD in 2004. People wanted the original theatrical release on DVD, so they released it.

When I see interviews where he says this is his "proper vision" and that he's fixing it because those effects were not possible back in the day, I buy into it, I believe it. Star Wars sells itself, he doesn't need to issue new newer newest versions because he wants to make money. I'd go as far as to say he doesn't even need to do that because of how much Star Wars has made.

Well, be that as it may, at the time he had, albiet, some idea as to what the prequels were going to be like, so it seems like he wasn't ruling out the possibility of taking the story further. Plus, it being the 80's riding on the success of the original trilogy, it was probably possible.

But since the 6 films deal with "Vader's story", which is what it became once the focus of the prequel was the "Rise of Vader", obviously he would dismiss the need for 7, 8 ,9.

There's no harm in it, I would certainly pay to see it, if they were made as well as the prequels. It's not like they are going to overwrite the originals.
