I have 5 male cherry barbs and am looking for some possible tankmates. Would black phantom tetras work? What about a female betta? I have a 12g marineland tank. I know its not the biggest tank but I know I have some room to work with, I just don't know which fish match up with my cherry barbs. Any other fish breed suggestions? Please no snails or shrimp though, not really my thing. Thanks in advance for the advice.

How about some bottom dwellers like a trio of corydora cats or kuhli loaches. Or you can try a small top dweller like a school of 5 redtail rasboras. Best way to match fish is by getting fish that use different space, and barbs generally inhabit the middle (not that they are not prone to going everywhere). I don't suggest bettas with fish as active as the barbs.
