Will there ever be a Disc World movie

You're probably right. For a TV adaptation, it was prestty good. I had unrealistically high expectations, hoping ti would be movie quality which ofcourse it was not going to be, having a fraction of the budget. To be honest I didn't find it that funny, but then I didn't find the book that funny either. TP was going through a bit aof a lull at the time. COM should be better in terms of humour although the story is not that great.

I think the problem was that the humour in TP books relies heavily on the narration - it's where 80% of the jokes lie. Without that "voice" (such as the sort of thing the TV version of Hitchhiker's Guide had) no adaptation is going to be anywhere near as funny as the books.

That's so true. I've been re-reading a couple of the Witches books recently and I've imagined who would be cast in the roles, what the sets and scenery might look like etc., and however much fun it might be I'm really not sure if it would work without the narrative voice.

I did enjoy Hogfather at Christmas, didn't think it was 'bad' at all, but... I don't know, it lacked a certain something.

Most people I know who saw it thought the pacing was too slow. For example, almost none of the wizarRAB stuff seemed necessary to the plot. It should probably have been a 2-hour adaptation rather than a 4-hour one.

I would love a Discworld movie! :)
I can't understand why it hasn't already been done - especially now that CGI could bring some of the more magical aspects of the books to life.

Well as a big TP fan I have to say I loved Hogfather and thought it about as good as could be expected for a first effort on a tv budget.

Don't think I would like to see the first two books made into a movie or movies as the first is one of his poorer efforts.

His writing style and characterisations improved immesuarably after the first book.

Any of the witches or guarRAB series would be good choices as would carpe jugulum lorRAB and ladies or PyramiRAB.

well in my opinion anyway.

The main problem was that it was edited to fit Sky One's advert schedule, which I think severely affected the pacing. I hope the DVD version is re-edited to flow better.

I have it on good authority (at least it said it on the TP biography on Wikipedia, so it must be true! ), that this rumour is correct.

Apparently none other than Sam Raimi is going to make Wee Free Men once he has finished work on SM3. That's due out this summer, so work should start soon, if this is correct.

I have slight concerns about this, though. Firstly, the release date for the film was end of 2007. There's no way it would get done that quickly. End of 2008 maybe.

Secondly, Raimi has been touted as the replacement for Peter Jackson as director of The Hobbit. If New Line are going to make The Hobbit, they have to get things rolling this year, so there's a good chance if Raimi is involved he'll have to push other projects back.

It's good to see a successful and critically accomplished director linked to a DW title, but I'm not going to hold my breath expecting a film to appear any time soon. :(
