Will the new health care system punish people with a healthy lifestyle?

The recent system does not cover anything that I really need, it punishes people with a healthy lifestyle. Someone like me (no drugs, no smoking, little alcohol) get nothing out of the health insurance.

People using alternative medicine, as chiropractors, acupuncture, mineral and herbal supplements, basically anything but big pharmacy traditional medications and surgery, have to pay full price. This is very unfair.

Basic needs like eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and dental should also be included.

No.

First of all, Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare, a fact that many people (including those who voted for him) seem not to realise. He wants to make insurance more available to all.

Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well.

FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.

FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.

That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

Any communist give-me program punishes the working class up through the affluent. It only helps the worthless, unneeded, useless, POOR!

Saying that you don't need health insurance because you're healthy is like saying you don't need homeowner's insurance because your house is intact.

Health coverage is more than just routine visits to a doctor, but also entails emergency and catastrophic illness.

As to whether or not the new system punishes people... eh I don't really know. It's just that the premise of your statement is flawed.

Alternative medicines and chiropractic services not being covered is GOOD. Insurance doesn't want to pay for pseudo-science and unproven methods... nor should they have to (although some do cover chiropractic work). Acupuncture and herbal supplements as a way to treat disease have never been scientifically proven and are likely useless.

Whether it works for you or not is another matter, I'm referring to empirical, scientific evidence that says that these alternative methods work. There isn't any. That's why insurance doesn't pay.
