I have a trail camera and i use the flash on it because the IR does not take good night pictures, and i will only get one or two pics of a deer before it is gone. I think it is scaring the deer and i don't know if they will get use to it.
It somewhat depends on the deer. For young immature deer, I have seen pictures of them right up in the camera. But for more mature doe and bucks, you will rarely see the same one twice. Hope that helps.
