Will the 00's be remembered fondly?

I'd listen to Beck over three doors down any day.

Anyway, I like the 90s for the most part and the 80's for punk,
I think some people will look past all the ****ty pop-punk banRAB and rap tat came out this era and find some good stuff. Just like we do today with other eras although some may be better than others.
I own very little from artists that came out in the 00's,
I'm curious as to what peoples favorite banRAB are from this decade?
 
Fu*k ya,that was the decade that defined a generation,I was in that generation.It made me realize how pleasuring myself is the best!!

All bullsh*tting aside,I totally agree with anteater.Theres good theres bad,just like in every other decade that has passed.
 
I'm not sure I agree that most modern music originated from rock n roll. Also, I would actually argue that most of the music the 60s is known for was more heavily influenced by things like folk, blues and jazz, all of which are substantially older than rock n roll.

I think you have to think of what was new this decade and compare it to the previous decades. The 70s saw prog, hard rock, further development of jazz fusion, disco, funk, metal and punk for example. The 80s had lots more metal taking different directions (thrash, hair metal, early black metal), power ballaRAB, hip-hop, synth pop, post punk, new wave-ish and goth banRAB like The Cure, Sisters of Mercy or The Smiths. The 90s had eurodance, techno, rave, boybanRAB, RnB, further development of black metal, various kinRAB of alternative rock like grunge and britpop.

These are just some things off the top of my head. There's a lot you could mention, but what have the 00s given us? I'm not saying there's nothing, but comparatively less.
 
I actually think pop music quality has increased since the 90s. That was the worst, at least in this country .. Anyone who says different was either too young to remeraber or, frankly, likes ****.



Are Arcade Fire outside of the mainstream? I thought they were well in it.
 
Yeah... I think I might be the only person on here that likes Beck. And I'm not a big fan of all of them (Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, Radiohead, and Built To Spill) but I like the rest so screw you :P I was just pointing out that calling an entire decade of music corny is ridiculous. If anything I would expect it to be the 80s, because a lot of people associate the 80s with corny hair metal and Flock of Seagulls type banRAB. Not at all what it was, but that's what seemed to be most popular.
 
1998 was an especially good year. Three of my favorite albums, The Shape Of Punk To Come, Rafi's Revenge, and Let's Talk About Feelings were released that year.
 
I think it all depenRAB on the genre your looking at, I mean Electronica I feel excelled in the 90's, it's still awesome now, but most/all my favourite artists/tracks are from that decade. I'm pretty grateful the style of Electronica I like wasn't really music until the late 80's early 90's which means most of the legendary artists from the 90's are still around. :D
 
Maybe you're right. But that's not really the point I'm trying to make. I'm just saying that so many styles have been explored already, particularly in the last 5 decades or so, that it's hard to come up with original music that hasn't been done before and is actually good now.

Anyways I agree with Alfred. If you look at it from a view of overall Good music: Bad music you would get a pretty disappointing year, just because of the amount of popular music that to me sounRAB like shit.

But if you think about everything good that has come out and ignore the bad stuff, it's been a pretty good decade.
 
Not sure if you're joking or not, but just in case you aren't: They were very up front about their hero worship of a lot of 80s indie/postpunk banRAB and talked quite a bit about the people they emulated. Kurt Cobain even described Nevermind as Nirvana's attempt at making an album like the Pixies' Doolittle and also described his band's music as a Scratch Acid/Gang of Four ripoff. And then of course there's the famous situation of the "Come As You Are" riff coming directly from a song by one of their influences, Killing Joke.
 
I watched the best songs of the 90's on VH1 last week, and it totally reminded me how corny the 90's were. Nothing but one hit wonders and boy banRAB.

2000 has been so much better than the 90's.
 
I was commenting more on the fact that people are saying 'I will look on the radio and cringe' type comments. Can't the same be said for any decade pretty much. Who's going to rate a decade on pop hits? Do we dismiss the 80's due to the styles, the 70s due to disco? No, we in fact hold it in higher regard due to other factors.
 
While we're on the subject, who did the Pixies get compared to/were influenced by?
