Will "South Park" end after its 15th season? (Edit: Nope, it'll be here till 2013)

So far, South Park has yet to be renewed past the 15th season its about to start on April 27.

In the past, Comedy Central has typically renewed it for multiple seasons a decent time in advance. I don't really see it ending anytime soon since it's Comedy Central's highest rated series.

What do you think?

Depends on Matt & Trey. They've been working on their Broadway musical, The Book of Mormon, and that's been eating up their time. I believe that's the reason why this season is starting later than usual.

I don't know if they starting working on the season premiere yet, but they definitely have lots to lampoon based off the news in 2011 so far.

I know that's why they're starting late but it's really odd there's been no renewal news. Usually Comedy Central renews it years in advance.

I would assume if it was the final season, Comedy Central would be pushing "The Final Season" angle long before the season even premiered.

Man, it still feels like yesterday that I read this news about South Park being extended to 2011: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/361185/south_park_extended_through_2011.html?cat=40. What's really weird is that if we were talking about The Simpsons or Family Guy, I'd say go ahead and bring them to a close. But oddly enough South Park is still at the top of their game. I know that Seth Macfarlane said that he didn't Family Guy to go on forever like The Simpsons has. But as long as South Park is still putting out a good product, like they've been, I'm all for more new episodes.

Yeah, 200/201 and the 3-part Mysterion felt like it was wrapping up some plotholes.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was it's final season. I recall Matt and Trey saying that they didn't want to be doing the show in their 40's. Trey is currently 41 and Matt will be turning 40 next month.

I'm pretty sure it'll be a matter of Trey & Matt not wanting to do it anymore rather than Comedy Central canceling it. CC will probably keep it going as long as T&M want to do it.

If you listen to the mini-commentaries they do on the DVDs, it always seems like they're talking about dreading the deadlines and struggling to come up with ideas and they act like they hate it when they're doing it but always want to come back to it. In particular, if you listen to the commentaries on the episodes from seasons 3 and 8 (the years they made the South Park movie and Team America, respectively), they sound like they were especially stressed out during those seasons. I have a feeling it's probably the same case for the past year and this upcoming half-season because of The Book of Mormon.

That fact, combined with the fact that it's the last year of the contract, and the success that Mormon seems to be having, makes me wonder if they'll finally say "enough is enough" and decide to move onto other types of projects like Mormon (which sounds like it could be a kind of "graduation" for them, if that makes sense). If that is the case, I hope they don't decide suddenly towards the end of the season, but earlier on so they have enough time to give it a proper sendoff.

Or they could sign another 3 year contract and keep it going indefinitely. Who knows.

I remember the Wii episode. But the other one was the Towelie episode with a fictional system called the "Game-sphere." When have they done like Xbox and PS3?

Also anyone remember the filthy South Park videogame for the N64? It was a first person style shooter :D .

They also did a PSP one. I could have sworn there was a Playstation (2 or 3?) episode, but I could be wrong.

Guitar Hero also got an episode.

EDIT: I remember that N64 game, but I'm pretty sure there was another N64 SP game. I think Chef was in the boxart.

There are three, actually; South Park (FPS), South Park Rally (Racing), and Chef's Luv Shack (no idea; according to Wikipedia, it's like a Mario Party-type game, but take that with a grain of salt). None of these are exclusive to the N64, though; they're all multi-platform (PS1, Dreamcast, etc.).

I actually own South Park Rally myself. Bought it last summer at a garage sale for $2. It's... not very good, and we'll just leave it at that.

In a few of the Book of Mormon articles I've read, the interviewers said that they've already decided against a Charlie Sheen episode. I can't remember the exact quote but they basically said the story was both too "sad" and already too dated (after a week they'd had enough of Charlie Sheen). That said, because of the short schedule they'll be on this year, and the trouble they apparently usually have coming up with ideas anyway, if they're desperate I wouldn't be surprised to see something Sheen related come up.

I can somewhat understand where they're coming from. I think I stopped following the whole thing with Charlie Sheen after a few weeks. But I think I can see them flip-flop on their opinion of a "No Charlie Sheen" episode. Of course, my vision of that is, instead of making it about Sheen, it will be about Randy or another one of the adults in South Park, but my money is on Randy. Why, because he's the most exploitable adult on the cast. I can totally see him abusing the "WINNING" and "TIGER BLOOD" phrases. That way, they can avoid directly referencing Sheen, but still have an episode about this whole thing.

Besides that, what's this about a short schedule? Do you mean they won't be making 7 episodes for this half season or are you talking about how they only make 7 episodes during the Spring?

By "short schedule" I meant that, because of The Book of Mormon, they wouldn't have as much time to develop and write episodes this season (at least the first half) as they normally do. The same thing happened in seasons 3 and 8 because of the South Park movie and Team America (respectively). But they still managed to crank out all the episodes in those seasons.

If you listen to the commentary for Woodland Critter Christmas, they had initially promised themselves they weren't going to do a Christmas episode that year, but when it got to the last minute and they couldn't think of any ideas they gave in and started making a regular Christmas episode with the critters, who eventually evolved into Satan worshiping critters.
