Will riding a stationary bike build up cartilage in your knees?

My mom's trainer says that it will. We're not sure whether to believe it. Of course, time will tell. Have you ever heard of this before, or known someone that has improved their knees doing this?

it doesn't build cartilage, it has nothing to do with that. what it does do is strengthen your joint muscles allowing your knees to function properly so your cartilage isn't worn down prematurely. riding a bike is a balanced work out for all of the muscles that have to do with your knees keeping them in line and preventing injury. it does not build cartilage, many trainers say this but they really don't know much about anatomical functions.
