Will owing money effect me getting a car?

In early 2008 I joined Golds Gym and canceled the membership in May because I moved out of state.

I moved in early June and in I think August I got a letter saying my membership had been canceled due to not paying my monthly 39.99 fee and that I now owed them $900.

I called up and spoke to them and they were no help at all, I told them I refuse to pay $900 for the service of just a few months and ontop of that I had canceled the membership before moving.

My question is I am about to buy a car and I was looking at money I owed, the only things I owe are Golds Gym and Provident bank which was $325 and I paid that a few weeks ago.

Will the money I owe Golds Gym effect me getting a car and will it taking me a year to pay off provident bank effect it?
to be more clear I was with them gym from early 2008 until May 2008, well May is when I had canceled and apparently golds gym messed up on something
thanks for the responses, yes Isabel I know Golds Gym is infamous for screwing people up and all but sadly I did not figure that out until after I was screwed over.

When I got the letter in August and they refused to help me I went online and found so many complaints about the gym.

I did try to get them to lower the amount and they refused. I told them the last day I was in there was the day I had canceled and they said they did have me scanned in that day but as for canceling they have no record of it

golds gym is infamous for screwing w ppl like that. they did the same thing to me and point blank lied about it. i think that's why many went out of business. it probably will affect you buying a car if it went on your credit report.
