In the future... I don't mean what has already passed.
Since society and civilization has brought us to the brink of complete destruction and has managed to kill off many, if not most of the the other species that once existed on this planet, what is a logical and tangible solution?
Correct me if you feel that I am wrong, but isn't our (meaning society) present state of increased awareness of our environment a continuation of our previous ego driven, consumer oriented patterns that are based more upon satisfyingly our own needs then true universal concern for preserving everything that is outside of us?
Will it be the same egos that has brought us to this point that will provide a solution or are we going to become humbled enough to evolve away from our patterns enough to shed ourselves of our egos so that we might halt the destruction and settle into longer term sustainability not only of ourselves but for all that is nature?
While the planet might survive in some way, is it too late for it's inhabitants; not only humans but the other species that we share our earth with.
Is it too late? Will our collective egos provide us with this solution?
I guess I should add; I KNOW the earth will survive. I don't equate the planet with the environment. When I mention environment, I guess that I am really meaning the biology of the planet, it's inhabitants... you know, the fish in the sea, the trees, the polar bears... humans as well as birds, etc.
