Will One Month of Sex Help My Chances to Conceive?

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost a year now. I have been off of birth control for about two years, and have only had about 3 natural periods since then. I have had my annual check up at my GYN, plus have had my blood tested for various things, and have been told everything is fine, my hormones just have not developed fully so that i have a regular period. My dr has me taking provera every three months to have a period. This is one of the months that I will be having my period and my husband and I are thinking that maybe if we have sex for a month straight after my period, then we will increase our chances to conceive. We have some friends who had trouble getting pregnant too, and the first month they tried having sex everyday, they conceived! I'm not even sure that i will be ovulating though, since my period is forced on by the pills. If anyone has any knowledge on this, I would appreciate the feed back.

If this is the month that you would be having a period, you are going to want to do this before, not after. Maybe ask your doctor to put you on something that will start a regular ovulation cycle. When you don't have a normal cycle you aren't ovulating regularly from what my doctors told me. Maybe work a little more closely with the OBGYN to see if there is anything you can do to create a regular ovulation cycle.

Good Luck and baby dust to you.

Do it!! Why not?! Have fun doing it while your at it! BUT, what I would do also is invest the 20-40 dollars in a large pack of opk's so you can see when you are actually ovulating. Good luck to you! Your month will come!

Well even with well timed intercourse there is only about a 20-25% chance of conception each cycle. The egg only lives about 24 hours so it can take a while. You can definately try having sex everyday and see if that works but I can imagine how that would start to get tiring and feel like a chore. Has your husband been tested as well? About 40% of couples having trouble conceiving is due to a male factor.

I would recommend using an ovulation prediction kit since you have irregular cycles. Also learn how to chart your basal body temperature to see if you are indeed ovulating. I assume your doctor did an FSH and does progesterone tests to see if ovulation is actually happening. If not maybe suggest it. A great book is called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It helps with all aspects of your cycle and with charting. There is also a free website www.fertilityfriend.com to help with charting.

Best wishes ttc!

I don't think it will improve your chances, but at least then you will be sure not to miss your fertile window!

Good luck and baby dust!!!

getting an ovulation test would be a lot healthier.... because be you do get pregnant too much sex can kill it just like that and having sex on your best ovulation days will help more
