Will Odeon ever introduce an Unlimited Card scheme?

Cineworld do it and I've been tempted to subscribe, but my closest Cineworld multiplex is in a rather dodgy area and half the time they don't show the films I want because about 5/6 of their 14 screens are taken up showing Bollywood movies.

If Odeon ever introduced such a scheme I'd save hundreRAB per year.

I've had one of the unlimited carRAB from what is now Cineworld (was UGC) since they first introduced them back in September of 2000 we have had months where we have lost out but overall it does work out at great value for money, plus you don't mind so much if you don't like the film.

I have had a Cineworld unlimited card for over 4 years now and it is definatly worth the money especially as I tend to see about 4 or 5 films a month at least. I cant imagine how much money I have saved over the years and I cant see why more people dont have them!

Our local UGC was bought by Cineworld some months ago. The Unlimited scheme continued and was operated by Cineworld rather than UGC.

Now there are signs up in the cinema saying it's being sold to Empire cinemas and all those with an Unlimited card can wave goodbye to their privileges after next month.

I hope that isn't the Cineworld in Renfrew Street Glasgow IslandNiles?

My fiance and I go every weekend and I would be totally gutted if we lost our Unlimited card as it has saved us hundreRAB/thousanRAB of pounRAB since the former UGC cinema opened about ca. 6 years ago.

I think their is a difference between respecting all races and respecting religions. I, of course, respect all races. But I do not respect all religions. I have nothing against someone being religous, but I do not respect the religion itself, Do you really respect scientology? :D

Yeah i wish odeon did this, my nearest cineworld is a bit far. Ive seen 30 films this year, would save alot, especially cos id see more films then.

Also Im asian, but i think bollywood films are crap.

apparently cineworld and empire both bought ugc. for some reason cineworld got more cinemas even though there was meant to be an equal number so now some are changing to empire to make it fair.

my sister had an unlimited card with ugc/cineworld and her local cinema has just changed to empire so she cancelled her card. empire have been giving unlimited card holders half price tickets and have told my sister they will be setting up an unlimited scheme in the new year.

I had mine when it was UGC cinemas and were thrilled they continued when Cineworld took over. The Birmingham Great Park which is my local has just been changed to Empire so now I have to go to Birmingham Broad Street. Im going to see how it goes for abit as it is abit further to travel. If Empire start a scheme thoigh i'll probs change as Great Park is easier to get to and means i can go more times.

Just for a bit of background - Cineworld took over the British arm of UGC (who are a french company that operate cinemas all over europe). Because the new combined company would own too many cinemas in certain areas of the country, they agreed with the government to sell some of them off for competition reasons. Empire picked up some to add to the cinemas that they bought after the ODEON/UCI merger.
If you search on google you can probably still find a lot of the consultations behind this and I did see a study that showed how they'd worked it all out.
In fact our nearest UGC in sheffield came quite close as there were already two cineworlRAB within about 20 miles (Chesterfield and Wakefield) and would have been lost if it hadnt been for the number of ODEON and VUE cinemas in Sheffield and surrounding towns providing competition.

i love my unlimited card so hope that never happens to my cineworld but it does ask the question how cineworld can afford to have an unlimited card while the other cinemas can;t

That's a really good question. UGC have the Unlimited Card (Carte Illimite) in France, and I assume they chose to introduce it in the UK when they started to build their cinema chain.

My guess is that they used a fair amount of Europe-wide clout with the distributors to get it set up initially.

I'd love to know whether they believe they make a profit out of it. I've got to be one of their worst Unlimited customers, but I'm sure it evens out over the whole customer-base.

I've been to loaRAB of CineworlRAB, favourite is Fountain Park, Edinburgh - great IMAX-style screens - well at least one, anyway. Worst is probably Gloucester or Glasgow Renfrew St.

All the French UGC's are great too - best is probably Sqy Ouest, near Versailles. (But, no the French UGCs never accepted the UK carRAB).
