Will Nextel fix phones that have been modified?

I bought my i730 on ebay (new, it was used as a display model) and the guy I bought it from had the white custom housing put on (by a certified motorola tech, he says) and now my volume up-down buttons on the side (above the PTT button) do not work.
The guy I bought it from 2 weeks ago wants to charge me $30 to fix it. I don't care to do that since I'd have to ship it back across the country plus pay him another $30.
I'm afraid Nextel will tell me to forget it since it's been modified.
Also, will they sell you the phone insurance if you didn't buy it from them and it's been modified?
 
I'm really not sure if you voided a warranty or not by modifying it,I doubt it.But one things for sure,if you void a warranty of any item,you simply have to pay more,especially if its oem.
Expect to pay a little more than half of what the phone cost new.

Yea,they will sell you phone insurance,as it mostly covers internal damage(Broken screen,chips,stolen,etc.) I'll still look into it to make sure,they change that agreement page a lot.
 
yes your moto warranty is now void...there are some shops...i don't know where u're from that will still service the phone, like my shop does and we are an authorized service center but if you have the service plan (called NSP 2.99 a month) u would have to pay since it's not covered by moto. the insurace (called signal $5 a month) would also not technically cover the phone unless you "lost" it or it was "stolen." they want the phone to come back to them for your particular issues and they would replace it if the original OEM housing was on it. signal also charges a min. $35 deductable that has gone up to $99 for the i730 in certain states because of the fraud that has happened. i would either ship it back or take it to a service center that will fix it....they aren't gonna turn you in...they will tell you if they'll touch...which they should cause it's a $35 fix for them. hope that helps
 
Just a question on your reply what states now charge 99 for the deductible and what frud are you taking about? I just had not heard about that.

I want to know cause i am going to get the i930 and i think when i get that i will get the insurence, though i have a i730 and it was not getting get signal and went to an express exchange store and got a replacement for 35 bucks. I wonder if that will be the same for i930 as well.
 
you're talking about 2 different things...signal has nothing to do with the service express...signal is nextel's insurance company that you pay 5 bux a month for...you call, there's a $35 deductable and they send you a new phone u send yours back in the box they shipped it to you in. now that deductible has gone up in many states for certain phones because of fraud...i won't mention what kind because ppl get ideas then they do it and it screws everyone else more. the service express is completely different...that's 35 for any phone and it's just a quick swap...provided there's no physical or water damage. this is not done on out of warranty phones altho it is up to the service centers discretiona and if they have a swap for the same phone availble which isn't very likely but possible...most of the 2 digit condor series...i90, i95, i85, etc...some i60s are still in warranty.

forgot to mention that signal has a different method of determining fraud and it's tougher now to beat it...that should discourage some of crooks out there
 
NO nextel will tell u to go to motorola moto will say yea but once they see that ur software was moded they will send it back i spoke wit motorola on this subject on 5-14-05
 
moto won't send back a phone for a software mod...only physical changing like the LEDs or case. the software changing like hacking the CP is up to the service center to find and in reality if moto is getting a CP modded phone back they are happy to have one less out there
