Will newer versions of Sony Vegas open .veg files saved with Vegas 7?

Planning on upgrading my Vegas to a more recent version. But I'd like to know if I can open my old project files.

Secondly, do I have to uninstall Vegas 7 in order to install the new version. Or can they be installed as separate programs?
