Will N. Korea ever push enough buttons to initiate a war?

I would say actively torpedoing the other side's ship would be a break of the armistice.

which is what SK is going to claim at the UN.

and NK has said they will go to war for ANY rebuke of any kind including sanctions by the UN.

North Korea....completely insane.

Kim Jong Il must be getting pretty close to his deathbed or something.

In for us stationing a few fast attack subs off NKorean waters just to harass the fuck out of them....with a stern warning that they better not try anything else stupid

The next time N. Korea sinks a S. Korean ship, this war might get started. Even though the U.S. might get involved, I think such a war would remain conservative so as not to draw China into it.

I heard Robert Gates today on the subject, and in response to a question about our military forces being spread thin, he said that in a war with NK, we would mostly fight with the Air Force and Navy, and those have not been affected that much by our two wars.

In a forum called defencetalk.com, I quickly read through a debate of who would win a war between North and South Korea. It's not great, but it has its good points. This is a quote from Firehorse in post #83.

If this hasn't already started preparations from the South and the U.S., it would only make the North more brazen in thinking that the South and the U.S. are afraid and cause more trouble including Japan. Both Koreas would suffer great losses but I don't think the North will ever rise again, even in the sad shape they are in now. It would only be more work for the South and the U.S to rebuild and bring that side into the 21st century.

I don't know. I'm just saying if they do anything Seoul will be shelled to the ground before you can take out all their fortified artillery.

I dont think China will even get their nose into it.....They and N Korea are not exactly best of buddies

open attack is a big step above trolling. what you're describing is extortion, and north korea has yet to make any demands

although it would be quite hilarious if this was completely unintentional by the north koreans. their soldiers so over indoctrinated that they felt compelled to act
