Will my nextel sim card work in a used handset?

I currently have an i580 and want to get a used i870 or i880 can I simply put my simcard in and will it work,being its a nextel sim in a nextel phone? Or would I need to unlock the phone?
 
Yes, you can place your 580 sim card in your 880/870 that you purchase, since the software versions are compatible (both are 128k), however, remember that if you have insurance on your line that you call nextel and have your serial number activated on your account as well!!!
