I am from Australia so laws here may be different to where you guys are from but i will ask anyway.
My dad had assaulted and threatened my ex boyfriend in 2006 and in 2007 was given a 12 month good behaviour bond. This expired in May 2008. On Christmas Day last year he didn't assault, but threatened my current boyfriend with a butter knife. Police are trying to charge him with having a 30cm carving knife (we all told police it was a butter knife) and my brother was hurt when my boyfriend threw a foot stool up the hallway because it was in the way. Police are trying to say dad did it even though on the statement it doesn't say this. My dad has a violent history, however since this incident, he has pulled his head in and we all get along good. He is at court right now and the police's witnesses (my mum and boyfriend) are going to try and explain that hes got dementia and is basically an old idiot because we believe jail time is inappropriate given his age and the fact he has learnt from his mistake. I understand he got himself into this but do you think they will give him another bond, fine or even community service or will it be jail time for him??
