Will movies like Saw and Hostel ever be shown on terrestrial british TV?

The swearing in Hostel II is more likely to be a problem than the violence.
 
Yes... but don't forget that 'terrestrial' has not got that much of a lifespan left to run.

For curious reasons beknownst only to myself, I reckon Saw would be BBC1 fare, whilst Hostel would only ever pop up on Channel 4... don't know why I think that way exactly.
 
I certainly couldn't see BBC 1 showing either film, or ITV 1. I'd say BBC 2 or Channel 4 are the likely channels to show this sometime this year, probably Channel 4.

I have seen neither films- but I have had an interest in watching the first Saw... I know about the language and the violence, is there any comparison between these films and the language or the some of the easy violence as to a Tarentino movie because there are always showing his films on BBC3. Sin City was on BBC2 last night- violent and swearing in it!
So- maybe there is a possibility, more likely on C4, I would say.
 
Not seen Saw to this day but having seen Hostel I can say the violence in it highly overhyped,it's no more gruesome then the original Hellraiser.

Part II may have a few more problems but then it is so cheesy in parts it probably wouldnt matter that much either either.

Channel 4 for both Hostel's.
 
What a strange thing to say. Terrestrial TV is non-satellite TV - received via an aerial rather than via a satellite dish or cable. Why would all the TV companies be ploughing money into Freeview television if it wasn't going to be around for much longer?

I assume you are getting terrestrial television and analogue television mixed up?
 
Channel 4 would probably be the only channel which would (channel 5 maybe as well), but Horror films never really seem to be shown that much on TV, so I wouldn't be suprised if they don't.

Overall films are not shown as much on TV as in the past....with the advent of DVD's and Sky....
 
Both films were rated 18 certificates and so I would imagine that they will be shown at some stage probably after 10.00pm and hopefully without cuts. Maybe one of the channels will have a late night horror season. I'd enjoy watching something like that.
 
I like both series. I'm not sure they have enough artistic merit that C4 would fight to show them - it's not like they'd been banned or anything. Then again, if they've been on Sky probably no fighting is needed.

SCI-FI Channel Acquires Horror Titles. Saw and More


SCI FI Channel has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to several titles from Lions Gate Entertainment, including the network television premieres of Saw, starring Cary Elwes and Danny Glover and Alone in the Dark, starring Christian Slater, Stephen Dorff and Tara Reid, the network announced. The two films will premiere on SCI FI in 2007. In an unannounced deal earlier this year, SCI FI also acquired the rights to the network television premieres of Lions Gate's Cabin Fever and House of the Dead, which are slated to air in 2006.

In a statement, Thomas Vitale, SCI FI's senior vice president, said that films are a good fit for the network's expanding audience. "We are extremely excited to have the premiere network windows for these Lions Gate titles," he said. "We have a long history with them, and their movies are always enjoyed by the audience of our highly successful Saturday night movie strand."

Other Lions Gate titles in the acquisition include Monster Man, Rottweiler, Leprechaun 3 and Leprechaun 4: In Space.

That's the Sci-Fi channel in America. The UK Sci-Fi channel wouldn't be able to afford the exclusive rights to anything, and the only reason that they got Heroes Season 1 before anywhere else is because most UK channels overlooked the show.
 
yeah its definitely Sci-Fi US as i think Zone Horror showed leprechaun 3 recently,I would also have thought that both Saw and Hostel would be more Film Four and Channel 4's cup of tea
