will mainstream, or should mainstream media be replaced by internet news and blogging?

it sort of reduces the spin and the average person has access to just as much information now. plus people only choose what they want to see, reducing "jamming" of the senses. too many people are being dimbed down by the constant media assault fueled by commercialism. this past election has proved that many people have given over their ability to weigh their options just to get the screaming, eye-gouging monkey off of them.
i personally quit watching tv and listening to radio and would much rather grab my allotment of news interactively (and my entertainment)... this gives me a more profound experience and doesn't brow-beat me into submission....so that i never stand in a crowd of millions waving a little flag that i don't even know the meaning of anymore one day.

w kumar-very nicely said!
it is more abstract, you are partially right about "confusing". but people are capable of more abstract thinking....and always have been...this ability has been squashed by the media giants.
their agenda... money
their means...political power
i could almost believe that the "little flag" ,aforementioned, may as well have been solid white....surrender.
like the parisians lining up along the road to welcome the nazi war machine.
biga8771...true, but also that we can simply turn him off...causing a desirable effect...for now anyway...i know they are watching...we can actually see what happens on here being reflected in the decisions they make...for now there is a push pull going on...later, it will be just push...unless we claim this territory and draw the line through vigalence....it's kind of sad that it has come to this...when no other option to be heard is available...then cold steel is the only way....lets hope not though.
and kyrix...sorry.. i think i combined and didn't mean to leave out such a great answer.
my bad=) the guess who...not grand funk railroad...though "american band" is another great song.

It already has to a large extent. Internet media are cheaper and like you said there's more choices to go pick from. And the declining subscriptions, advertising, and viewership of traditional media also reflect this. The mainstream media had their chance. They didn't give us the real news; they just gave us what they wanted to give us. The NY Times thinks something's news when they tell us it's news. No wonder so few people read that drivel anymore!

I think what you're seeing are liberal sites and conservative sites. There's spin and bias, but at least if you're reading something on DailyKos or Townhall you know what's coming, they're forthright on their bias, and make no false claim of impartiality.

Naaa freedom of the press and the free market will decide who lives and dies as a news source.
As for those who can't or won't sift through what is being said and judge for themselves then I can only offer a quote from John Wayne................."life is tough......It's tougher when your stupid"

Mainstream media will become internet news and blogging. You are replacing one form of media with another. It may be more democratic, and perhaps more valuable, however it is also more confusing and more prone to be influenced by subjective opinions. Spin is still there. However, you can ignore what you want to ignore.
