will just doing all over body toning exercises help u look slimmer?

I want to achieve a nice toned look all over my body but not lose weight on my face. I like how my face looks so I don't want it to look skinner by losing weight but I do want to look like I lost weight on my body. will just doing toning exercises help me achieve this? If so how long should the workout be? how many days a week u recommend? any suggestions?
