The way I see it he already has 3,000 hits. He had 1,278 hits in NPB in Japan. This league is considered a professional baseball league and considering the Americas showing in the World Baseball Classic I wouldnt discount these hits. Then he also has 2,030 hits in the MLB. That comes to a grand total of 3,308.
Basically, Ichiro is a hits machine. And if he played his whole career in the MLB he would definitely have had 3,000 MLB hits. The way it stands now he will need to play for about 10 more years to break 3,000 MLB hits. This is unlikely but possible. I expect him to play at his current abilities for at least 5 more years but saying he's going to be a 200 hit guy every year from when he's 40-45 years old is hard to imagine. I'll guess we'll see in due time.
Overall, Ichiro has amassed over 3,000 hits in professional baseball. They just weren't all in the MLB. First ballot HOFer all the way.
