Will I ever be able to do sports again?

I had an ACL surgery and meniscus repair on my knee a year ago. Around six months after the surgery, I started participating in gym class. It seemed completely fine. Now my knee is supposed to be full healed, but everytime after I do strenuous exercise, my knee would have brief spasms of sharp pain. I check with my doctor and he said that the symptoms I was having were normal, but I still don't feel right.
He says that the ligament is fine, but I think I might have to re-repair my meniscus. My parents keep telling me that a second surgery will do serious damage to my leg to the point where I will have complications by the time I am thirty and I will never be able to play sports again. Sports make up half my life and I dont know how id be able to live without them.

Is it normal for my knee to feel like this a year after surgery?
And what are the consequences of a second meniscus surgery?
