quite honestly, it is usually a much better idea to have all MRIs just done at the very same facility just becasue they already have the comparritive studys there to see and compare to. this would show much better just how your overall conditions or herniations have progressed over time.
the one thing you really just do need to know here when it comes to the radiologist read? most good surgeons do NOT go by what any mere radiologist feels about a particular finding but choose to make their own impressions/diagnosis by looking only at what the films say to them. i would just trust my surgeons read much more than a radiologist who simply does not DO surgeries at all, ya know what i mean?
while most surgeons do look at the reports, some don't really bother? that report alone is NOT by any means what they would go by when they are trying to figure out just what needs surgery done, ya know what i mean? they determine need for surgical intervention by looking at those hard films and listening to you and seeing your real signs and symptoms.
now, primary docs WILL place more importance on the rad reports only because they have to in order to just get you referred to the appropriate type of specialist and they simply do not even know with certain types of findings exactly what those mean either. its just not their job to really know that stuff. that is why they send you to the people who do.
i can tell you i have had to have (just had one here last month again) 17 seperate MRIs done on various areas of my body since 2001 for different reasons or some for the same area, and with the exception of one of them that was done while in the hospital, they have ALL been done at the very same facility. they just know me there wayyy too well at this point, lol. but i go there for the continuity they just know about all the insane and wierd things i have had with this freaky body of mine. this also allows them to even look up my very first MRI done ever back in 2001 if needed. personally i would just continue to go to the place you have already been going to, for alot of reasons. like i mentioned above, that rad read is no where near as important as what your actual surgeon reads when HE does his read of your films. i can almost guarentee you that it is NOT a "fresh" report your surgeon wants here, it is the 'fresh' films that he really needs to see. they just NEED to know how things have progressed in your spinal areas since the last one before they actually decide what even NEEDS to be fixed with some form of surgery. just what is the true nature of your spinal problems? i would also make certain that you ALWAYS obtain your very own copies of any and all testing types of results that is ever done on you just so you have them yourself and can read thru them yourself. good luck, and please let me know how things are going.
