I am thinking about buying a new 4-door jeep wrangler, but will I never be able to find any parts, should anything go wrong, if Chrysler goes out of business?

you can still get parts for a 1938 jeep...besides the govt is gona fix everything...you trust them dont you?

Those are popular with the aftermarket so the aftermarket will continue making parts for them, plus Chrysler will have lots of already made parts that will not be used and those will be available. And last if they close it is almost guaranteed that a popular model like that will be built by someone else.

Just the American Chrysler Industry will go under, I think they still have a Japanese company counter part. But I am not sure. All lot of these companies also make cars in Canada, Japan, etc. So I wouldn't worry to much. They are just trying to keep at least one factory in America to keep American jobs.

i sure hope that chrysler doesn't go out of business...i work at a chrysler and jeep dealership. eep!

yes, there will be a market for parts. the only problem you would have is that when a brand is discontinued, the manufacturers no longer have an investment in that brand, so they may price the parts higher. Basically they no longer need to worry about the brand having a reputation as being expensive to repair. But there will still be competition in terms of the parts suppliers and manufacturers, so I don't think it will be too bad.

The main thing keeping policy makers from going with the restructuring under chapter 11 bankrupcy as the solution to the auto manufacturing crisis is that we are not sure exactly what effect the bankrupcy would have on parts and service, both how it will work for the people who currently own cars of that make, and also what it will do to the decision to buy from a company that has been through bankrupcy. I would expect some negative effect in terms of price and availability of parts, but not a total lack of parts being available at all.

Thats a good question. If it was 1 year older, youd probably have no problem. There are always after market parts manufacturered, I do not know how long before they become available to purchase though. Call a local big name auto parts shop and ask there, ask them if they are already having parts available, and what their opionion is for when manufacturers go out of business. Junk yards have intercommunications nationwide sometimes just for these types of situations, but it is a hassel finding an original part of certain cars. If you fear that much, why not buy something that is less likely to go out of business.

The parts will be around. If for some reason a dealership doesn't carry them there are always local junk yards with barely used parts.

There are so many aftermarket parts manufacturers for Jeep vehicles that finding parts should never be a problem, Whether you get OEM parts or aftermarket parts, someone will have whatever you need for at least 15 years after you purchase the car.

I know someone who bought a Daewoo Lanos right when Daewoo went under in the US (about 6-7 years ago) and she still has no trouble finding parts for it. Daewoos are no where near as common as Jeeps either, so you should be OK even if Chrysler goes under (which is HIGHLY unlikely to happen if you ask me).

If any of the auto companies goes bankrupt, they won't just stop making cars. Some other company will buy up their assets and production will continue. I wouldn't worry about parts.
