Will filing separate taxes help our college student get more financial aid?

I make about 80K , my wife 25K & we have four kids. One of our kids is heading to College in 2010.
I have been told we make too much $ to qualify for grants & financial aid.
Will it help if my wife & I file separate taxes? The daughter going to College is my step daughter with a different last name.
Please help!
