Will cap and trade help the environment?

Personally I think it's political nonsense and that the've effectively created a commodity for trader's to make a fortune on while doing nothing to help the environment. What do you think?
Actually in a free market you would have a choice to use cheaper less green alternatives or pay up for the alternative with the lower carbon footprint (or whatever they are calling it this week). This is ultimately forced price increase for everyone regardless if they think it is bogus or not. It is forecasted that this will be a trillion dollar market in the next few years. Enron traders were licking their chops before the company went under because they new this was a market that could easily be pushed around.

no, First off, there is no such thing as cap and trade its cap and tax.

People like to compare the cap and trade on things like SO2 or Freon 12. Those things work because there were/are options to replace the venting of those things that cost a 10% to 20% more, so the trade cost were small and the ability to switch was easy.and a 10% added to cost is doable

There is no substitution for CO2 venting that is less than 100% more expensive, some options are 1000% more expensive, this means that the cost of the alternatives will double or triple the costs.

Are you ready to have your energy costs go from an average of 10% of your income to 30%, which means you will have zero money for things like internet service, movies, music, vacations, and any fun things, if so, go for it.

Cap and trade works with the free market to reduce emissions. It is much better for the economy than a mandatory emissions reduction law.

It's not perfect, but can you think of a better way to reduce emissions?

No, It will only help certain politicians and special interest groups, namely the far left wacko ones.

No. It will stifle the free market and do nothing to help the environment, except perhaps get many more people heating their homes with wood, wood pellets and corn.
