Will Bell Replace My Receiver?

I have a 9242 PVR and today my optical cable fell out of the optical output spot on the back of the receiver and I can not get it back in. It's almost like something is broken on the output slot. Will Bell replace my receiver for me? I've had it since the end of October.

They might try to send a tech for 75$ but if you argue enough, you might get a replacement rx without paying for a service call. Don't you have a digital coax output available???

It also depends on if you:

a) are renting
b) purchsed the unit nad have dishcare (maintenance package)
c) purchased the unit without dishcare

I can't remember what the warranty period is for purchased units......

But, as mentioned, the only thing to do really is call and ask.

Thanks. That's what I thought too but wasn't sure. Not sure if it would cover "user negligence" though. Not sure it applies in this case but they may say it was the user that caused the problem rather than a defect in manufacturing.

Worst case, you could problably get it replaced with a refurb. What's that run now, $149 or something? But again, best to call instead of having us guess what they will do, although I guess it doesn't hurt to hear what the potential options are before getting on the phone.

Warranty period is 1 year on all purchased receivers...
I belive that Bell stores also offer an extended warranty that covers for a few more years which is cheaper than Dish Care.

EV rule for replacement is that they will charge the client in case they found that client's negligence caused the break.
I personnaly never saw a client being charged after he returned a unit
They will ask you when they take the call if the receiver felt, just say no

When you call to say our unit is defective they will make you go throught a serie of steps to troubleshoot the problem. The tech 2 agent could only call the tech 3 departement (responsible for the replacement) if all those steps have been completed

Once you are transferred to tech 3 he will probably try 1 or 2 things with you in order to solve the issue. If it's not possible to bring the unit back to life the will order a replacement.
It would take 5-7 buisness day for you to receive the replacement unit, which you would have to install yourself
Service is pretty fast these days... I called on a Saturday with a defective unit and the refurbish one was here by Monday. Problem is the defective one started working again in the meantime so I no longer needed the refurbish one

You then call Bell (it can not be done on internet) who wil activate it and whithin 15 min-2h you will view your programming again

Or.. you could make one last attempt at inserting the cable. I would look inside the jack for anything laying in the way and remove it, put the cable back in and hold it in with tape if need be. The optical jack isn't such a complicated item, it just holds your cable end against it.

Warranty does not cover any physical damages, so best bet is first try to put the cable back in. The cable can`t just fall off. If still doesn`t fit try talking to them.

Did the end of the cable break off, possibly inside the optical plug? If so, you will need to get a new cable and get the broken piece out of the plug (maybe some tape or a needle will work.) If the plug itself is broken, you will need to get it replaced or get a refurb from EV.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 9242. The optical input literally wouldn't accept any optical cables I have (I tried atleast 6).

I called Bell and explained it to them and they told me it was under warranty (1 year). The shipped a new 9242 out to me and all I had to do was send back my old one. No cost!!!
