All the answers say that I have to get it unlocked. I'm guessing that neither a T-Mobile store or AT&T store would be willing to unlock the phone. Would I be able to get it done at one of the indie cell phone stores?
If the phone is unlocked...Think of it like this...If you buy it off ebay and its a T-Mobile G1 unlocked then it will work but if you go to the store and buy a T-Mobile G1 then no it will not work
