Hi all!

My son is scheduled for his first consultation tomorrow regarding a bulging L5-S1 disc and subsequent pain, nurabness. Unfortunately, yesterday he fell on his steps and hit his tailbone directly and now is in a great deal of pain dealing with this.

Question: Does anyone out there know whether or not this tailbone injury will affect his other problem (bulging disc) L5-S1. He will feel like an idiot going to the doc tomorrow in so much pain.

Thanks for any info:

Hi Carole,

First, your son should not feel bad or silly or anything else for having to see the doctor. So many of us have to, young and old.

Second, Ouch! I have numerous bulging lurabar discs and they are quite painful in and of themselves nevermind taking a fall on the tailbone. I'm no doctor but I would imagine that such a fall could very well make the pain worse at the very least. I hope that it did not make his existing troubles any worse. So, yes, I think that fall would definitely irritate the bulge area.

Has he had an MRI? How did he know about the bulge? Do you know what type of doctor he will be seeing? Unless there are complications with the bulge that your son is not aware of the doctor might suggest more conservative treatments at first, like injections, physical therapy, medication.

Let us know what the docs says.

Hey there....how did your son's appointment go with the doctor?
I had to have a L4-5 fusion with bone graft this last October 20008. Before that I had fallen down my stairs 4 times and yes it made the herniated disk worse! I feel for him!:(
